Learning Challenge: Being Busy Is Killing Our Ability to Think Creatively

For the HEART Learning Challenge this week, I have decided to read an article about attention, because this is one of the HEART challenges I have not done yet. I love reading the articles for our extra credit because they are all so interesting to read.

The article I chose is called 'Being Busy Is Killing Our Ability to Think Creatively' written by Derek Beres. I am someone who constantly feels as if I need to be busy (as I am currently trying to knock out a bunch of extra credit assignments since I am only 50 points away from being done with this class) so I thought this would be a great article to read for me. This is something I have never thought about before. However, it makes so much sense why this title is true. Being busy all the time puts you in a routine. This routine is redundant, and even though it may not be easy, it is ruining your creative mind. You need time to think and be bored in order to have the ability to create new and interesting thoughts. Exhausting your brain by being busy all the time, will not help you with this.

Beres wrote four pieces of advice that I thought were awesome to keep with you, when you need a little break from the busy world.

"1. Make a long walk—without your phone—a part of your daily routine
2. Get out of your comfort zone
3. Make more time for fun and games
4. Alternate between doing focused work and activities that are less intellectually demanding"

This advice is something I can complete in the future to help me when I am feeling overwhelmed and too busy.
