Introduction: Kayleigh Zemaitis

Hi everyone!

My name is Kayleigh Zemaitis and I am a Sociology major with an HR minor. This is my final semester of my undergraduate career, as I will be graduating in December! I am incredibly excited to graduate because I have received a job offer from my internship this summer. I interned at an auto finance company in Dallas, Texas in their Human Relations department. I was able to work in and learn about each aspect of Human Relations. There were days where I would work in recruiting where I would be phone screening potential candidates for various positions within the company. Then there were days I would work in the training aspect of Human Relations. I really found something I love to do during my time working with training. I was able to assist in the creation of content for various aspects of the company, such as general compliance and topic specific to people who worked in customer service on the phones.

Even though I have a job offer once I graduate, I am still incredibly interest in getting my master's degree. I have been looking into completing a completely online Human Relations degree from Villanova University. This would allow me to achieve this degree, while still being able to get my start in the working world (and earn some money!).

I am originally from Chicago, Illinois, but moved to McKinney, Texas when I was in elementary school. My hobbies include horseback riding, fitness/nutrition, and cooking. I have ridden horses since I was five years old and I still continue to do it everyday. In high school I competed in 'AA' rated United States Equestrian Federation competitions in both hunters and jumpers. I sadly do not have time to compete anymore, but I have brought one of my horses to Norman so I can ride casually while I am in college. His name is Monty and I have owned him for five years now.

  1. I am glad I got to learn more about your horses in this post, Kayleigh! Monty is beautiful! And congratulations on having a job lined up already: that will allow you to just totally enjoy your last semester of college. Wonderful! And later in the week you will get to a "growth mindset" activity that I hope you will enjoy; a lot of the growth mindset resources I have collected come from the world of human relations and employee development (along with the world of education), so that could maybe be useful for you in your future career. I will be curious to read what you think about that, and I hope you enjoy the class!

  2. Hi Kayleigh! I also have an HR minor and congrats on having a job lined up already! That is so awesome. Also your horse is beautiful, I used to have a horse when I was younger named Sassy, but we couldn't keep her because no one was ever home to help me saddle her up and I was too small to do it but I have always loved horses and I'm so happy that you're able to have one of yours with you this year. I hope you have a wonderful last semester!

  3. Hello Kayleigh!
Reading your introduction reminded me of what a small world it is out there. My two best friends I have met at OU are from McKinney, and my hometown is just a couple hours away from the Dallas area. Speaking of Dallas, I am so excited to hear about your internship. Working in a big city like Dallas will be an amazing experience, and I certainly wish you all the best.
Your picture with your horse is absolutely stunning! I have a few horses back in Texas in my hometown as well, so it is obvious we both have quite a few things in common. As for your last year of school, I just want to remind you to enjoy it! I am a junior this year, so my time here in Norman will come to an end very soon.

Good luck on your internship and all your future endeavors; maybe we will cross paths again in the Dallas area.

  4. Hi again Kaleigh! I think its awesome that you study Sociology. I love sociology! If I weren't pursuing a career in medicine, I would definitely want to be a sociologist. Moreover, I think its great that you're continuing your education on to a Master's program. I really hope that you're able to accomplish that while in the work field. Furthermore, I also enjoy cooking and riding horses. I used to show as a child before I eventually began roping. However, I found myself needing to prioritize my time in a way that I couldn't continue. But I still ride when I make it back home to Tulsa. In closing, I think its awesome that you found something you love and I hope you get to continue to ride and care for your horses. Good luck on your internship and congratulations on your soon to be graduation!

  5. Hi, Kayleigh. Like you, I am almost finished with school and am thinking about applying for a graduate degree. You are a lot closer than I am, though, because I don't even know what schools to consider! I think it's great that you both want to start a career and move forward with your studies at the same time. Congratulations on the internship experience! They can really help you move forward with a career in the future. Wish you the best, and I look forward to reading some of your stories this semester!

  6. Hey Kayleigh,

That's awesome that you already have a job offer, once you graduate this December. That's good that you will be doing master's while working. It takes lots of effort and I am glad you are choosing to do so for your career. Dallas sounds like a good place to start your first official job, I want to be around same area once I get a degree as well. I love Dallas and I have so many family members there. Good luck on your future endeavors!

  7. Hi, Kayleigh!
I am a senior too. I have one more semester to go, so I will graduate in May. I like cooking too. It can sometimes relieve my stress by experiencing the magic of different seasonings. I am happy for you that you have already gotten a job offer. So that you don’t have to worry as much after you graduate. Working while achieving the master degree in Human Relations sounds rough. Wish you the best luck!

  8. It is absolutely incredible that you have any time to ride a horse during your college career! It's great that you didn't have to fully give up that hobby for your education. Congratulations on graduation, it must feel nice to have a job lined up so neatly. I didn't know that horseback riding was a thing at all out in Chicago, but I guess it's a much more diverse place than I had imagined. Good luck with your career and your masters prospects.

  9. Hey Kayleigh!

That is super exciting that you are almost done with college and that you already have a job for when you graduate! Congratulations! I also think it's awesome that you're thinking about a master's degree, that takes a lot of dedication and hard work and I applaud you for that.

Aw Monty is so beautiful! I think horseback riding is so cool, even though I've never done it. It sounds like a fun time so hopefully I'll get to try it one day. Anyway, good luck with everything in this class and in the future!

  10. Hey Kayleigh,

Congratulation on almost finishing your college undergrad degree. I wish I was in your seat right now in college credits. Monty is a really pretty horse and I actually have a friend that is on the equestrian team here at OU. I don't think I could be someone that rides horses but I always am very intrigued by the people that do. I feel like rides have a special bond with their horse and I think that is a really cool part of the sport.

  11. Hi, Kayleigh! I have got to say, I have never met someone who has done equestrian before - I think that's a SUPER cool thing! I hope you enjoyed interning in Dallas; I'm actually from the Dallas area, so I have a bias for the city :). Also, congratulations on nearing the end of your undergraduate degree! I bet that's quite exciting. It sounds like you have some great plans for your future after graduating, too, so I wish you all the best in your endeavors!

  12. Hey Kayleigh!
Wow, Monty is gorgeous! It's awesome that another person from this class knows a lot about and loves horses. It's crazy that I live 15 minutes from Mckinney as well, in a small town named Anna! So since we're from the same area, I'm sure we do know many of the same riding facilities! I also understand how crazy busy it gets and the opportunity to compete comes rarely in college (unfortunately). Anyways.. Congrats on having a plan after graduation already, that's exciting! It's great that you love what you're doing career wise. Good luck to you this semester and in your future!

  13. Hi Kayleigh,

Monty is a great name for a horse, and he looks like a great guy. I had some friends from high school that were in to horses (namely barrel racing) and the amount of time and money they put into their sport and their horse was insane, I have a lot of respect for people that choose to compete! I'm glad you already have a job lined up out of college, I am in a similar position myself and it is nice to not be frantically worrying about finding a job out of college, but you also can't get too complacent thinking that it will be there no matter what! I look forward to seeing more of your blog posts.

  14. Hey Kayleigh- I like the website so far, and especially the horse picture. I think going for a masters is an awesome idea. I plan on doing the same after college, and if its online, then you can still move on to a good paying job. I also like fitness and cooking- good way to keep in shape is to control everything you eat. I look forward to reading your stories this week! Good luck with everything!

  15. Hi Kayleigh! This is also my last semester and have a job lined up afterwards! It's such a great feeling knowing that we're almost done! I've considered taking classes online when I pursue my master's degree, because there's just too much to miss out there and it's about time to work for our money! I have family in Chicago, it's such a beautiful city! I visit as much as I can; I just can't get enough! You're the first person that I've met that's an Equestrian (not sure I utilized the term correctly). I do know a few people who ride, but not compete. I've only ridden a horse during the Hollywood Sign tour and it was super fun! Interestingly scary experience as well; it definitely takes some skill to ride a horse to perfection so props to you! Good luck in your final semester and the future to come, it was great meeting you!

  16. Hi Kayleigh!
Congrats on your “almost graduation!” That must be so exciting for you! It also must be really nice to already have a job lined up for you. I graduate next May and I am definitely stressing about that. I also want to live in Dallas so I am extra jealous! You must be really driven to be working and still pursuing a Master’s at the same time! How cool!

  17. Hi Kayleigh!

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! It must be quite the relief to see all of your hard work over the last few years pay off, especially since you already hold a job offer. I think it's great that you were able to bring one of your horses to Norman with that being such a big part of your life.
It was nice learning more about you. Good luck with the rest of semester and you future plans!
