During this blog post I will examine Part C of the Public Domain Edition of the Mahabharata. Throughout the readings of the episodes, I was inspired for the retellings I will be completing later in Week 7!
An episode that I believe will be fun to alter is 'Life in the Forest'. The reason I enjoyed this story so much is that it is so similar to when Rama was exiled. I would like to change this story by bringing Rama into it. After putting the two stories side-by-side, I want to compare and contrast what they do during exile and the reason for it. I am thinking that maybe I will write this retelling as if Rama and the Pandavas were exiled together. I think paralleling these two stories would be such a cool take on this story. I immediately thought of Rama when reading 'Life in the Forest'. If my readers and other people did not, they definitely will when I complete my retelling of this story. This is a story I am really excited to do and will absolutely be one that I do for the next assignment.
The next episode I wanted to discuss is called 'Riddles at the Lake'. This story was absolutely fascinating! You truly have decode the entire episode line-by-line. This is something I have not seen yet in our readings, which made it immediately catch my eyes. Not only am I interested in doing a retelling of this story, I want to use the concept in my retellings of other stories. It would be tricky, but so much fun to create a series of riddles to tell a different story. This would require my reader to really think about the content. I would want to do it to foreshadow things that were going to happen in the future to the characters that will be in my retelling.
