I have chosen to begin my Mahabharata reading with the online public domain version.
One of the stories in Part A that I enjoyed was 'Kunti and Her Son". This story discussed the birth of Kunti's son she named Karan. This story is crucial to this epic because Karan becomes a very important character in Mahabharata. In my version of this story I would create this story as flashback instead of it being in the present tense. I would made it so that Karan was looking back on the day he was born, not knowing how important he would be in the future. I would make him see how this day affected him for the rest of his life. Seeing this story through a flashback would be incredibly interesting because I could discuss all the information that comes out about Karan later in this epic and relate it to this story of his birth.
I was also interested in the episode titled 'The Sons of Pandu' , even though this is similar to learning about Kunti's son Karan. I think at the beginning of these epics, it is so interesting to see the birth of these characters that end up being so crucial to the rest of the epic. I love seeing the foreshadowing of the greatness that these people will accomplish. Even more so I love the characters that seem as if they are going to be irrelevant to the epic and end up being such crucial characters. Pandu was previously cursed, so this story is shocking because he was not ever supposed to have his own children. In the original story, Pandu dies, but I would want to recreate the story where he was still living and defeated the curse. The curse he receives is kind of depressing, and even though he is able to have the children he was never supposed to have, I want to make this more of a positive story.
